▶ Your Answer :
With the advent
of globalization, there is a growing number of people who are learning a
foreign language, and some parents want their children to start learning it
earlier. In addition, some experts claim that there are lots of benefits to
learn a foreign language from the young age. In spite of the common belief,
there are also drawbacks to do it. I agree with the former opinion.
In the first
place, one of the significant advantages is that learning a second language at
primary school is more likely to achieve native-like fluency than learn at secondary
school. That is, since before twelve years old is critical age for language acquisition,
children are able to acquire a second language even a third language naturally
and easily more than older age. In the second place, it is also true that compared
with those who lean a foreign language at secondary school, learning a foreign
language from the early age like a primary school provides the competitive
edge.
On the other
hand, there are disadvantages to learn a foreign language from the primary school
reason for early second language education is harmful to children’s development
of brain and learning ability. That is, it can disturb children learning their
first language, factor in before the secondary school age is not complete a
first language and their native culture. Moreover, there are more advantages to
lean a foreign language at secondary school than at primary school. To
illustrate this, studies have consistently shown that having a genuine interest
in the language itself is more effective over the long-term than learning a
language for a reward such as high grades or praise.
In conclusion, it
is not deny that there are several benefits to learn a second language from the
early age. However, mentioned above, I assume that there are more drawbacks
reason for children can confuse a mother language and a foreign language.
Therefore, there is better time to learn a second language than at the primary
school. |
