Some people insist that it is helpful for citizens to use CCTVs at
places where there are many crimes, but installing CCTVs has also some negative
effects on society, especially in terms of privacy. In this regard, people may
have diverse ideas about CCTVs.
To
begin with, using CCTV cameras have many positive effects on society. It could make people to feel safer because people
have been monitored by the cameras. This would be likely to prevent crimes and
enhance social security. In fact, crimes
have been reduced in most places when CCTVs has been installed. Moreover, CCTVs
often have been used in court as evidence. For example, related with car
accidents, they are very useful and convenient to decide who is responsible for
the accidents. Therefore, it is apparent that CCTVs have been playing an
important role in society.
On
the other hand, some people think that disadvantages of this could outweigh the
advantages. They believe that the more CCTVs are installed, the more they are
likely to be misused. The government also could use CCTVs to spy on citizen’s
everyday life. In some cases, the video footage has been uploaded on the internet,
and this has had negative effects on people’s privacy. For these reasons, they
assert that using CCTVs should be limited.
To
sum up, it is clear that there are many advantages for society if CCTVs are
installed in many areas. However, there are also significant drawbacks because
the cameras could invade people’s privacy.
