It is common belief that it is good for college to encourage students to create business while they are still in school. However, there is more persuasive argument that starting a business as a student will make them struggle to concentrate on their studies. On the one hand, trying to get off business on the ground as college student can help them put ideas into practice using knowledges learned during their classes. This hands-on involvement offers students more engaging way of learning. For example, students may be asked to write a business plan for food truck in class, but they would not be able to find out whether their plans are profitable. So when they are encouraged to set off business in order to their strategies. They will be able to know what was right or wrong. From this direct experience, they gain practical knowledge which will be valuable in their future careers.
Nonetheless, students would struggle to concentrate on their studies because getting a business off the ground is not simple enough for them to manage while studying. It would take significant time and energy. Moreover, there is research about how long it takes to start a business up and run it. According to the research it takes two years in average. However, students may be asked to do this in couple of months or a year project while keeping up with their classes. To get both done successfully, they would not have time to rest or use for themselves. Furthermore, it is hindering their long-term professional development.
To sum up, since there are some advantages to encouraging students to start business as part of their studies, it is evident that there are far more disadvantages to forcing students to go into business while in college. |
