Opinions might be divided over whether face-to face communication is better
than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mail, or telephone calls.
Personally, I agree with that face-to-face communication is the best way of
communication, and I have two reasons. First, people can provide and get an
instant response. Second, this conversation makes it possible to understand the
exact meaning of what other people say.
To begin with, when people have some problems, it is necessary to handle
the problems quickly and precisely. Face-to-face conversation is an effective
way in that people can give immediate solutions to the problems. Proponents of
my perspective claim that people should use e-mail or telephone calls when they
converse with other people, because there are many tasks they have to do, and
need to save time. Advocates’ claim may sound reasonable on the surface.
However, if we take a closer look at their contentions, the rationale for their
assertion lacks logic in many ways. Moreover, my personal experience can debunk
their claim. Last year, I had a group project with my colleagues. When we have
some issues, we send e-mails or text messages. However, it took so long time,
so every time we met, we gathered in a student lounge and discussed about the
issues we had. Thus, we could finish our project successfully and got a good
grade.
In addition, it is difficult to understand exact intention in e-mail or
telephone calls, but people can grasp others by seeing their look. There are
many articles which can support my argument. They expressed doubts that are
similar to my point of view. A few weeks ago, I had a chance to read an article
from the Dong-A Daily News that is related to the topic. It described the
results of the survey conducted by the Seoul National University cognitive
science researchers with more than five hundred CEOs working at large companies
in Seoul. According to the article, of the 500 CEOs surveyed more than 80
percent of them answered that when they talk front to front with their clients,
they could understand what their clients said and did a good job. They went on
say that e-mail and telephone calls are quite efficient ways, but in order to
grasp the intention of other people they should converse with seeing other’s
face.
Based on the examples I mentioned above, I can conclude that face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication. such as letters, e-mail, or telephone calls. |
