Undoubtedly, friends play a significant role in people's lives in many of the places where they work or play. Some people think that it is possible for two people to be close friends even if one is very wealthy and the other is poor, while others do not. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that these people cannot be close friends for the following two reasons.
First of all, when people try to make friends who are in the different financial status, they cannot be happy in a relationship. People usually want friends to empathize with them especially in a harsh circumstance with respect to money, but people in different classes might not understand each other. This makes people especially the poor frustrated in their friendship. For instance, my sister was very well in high school and had many friends. After she met some classmates who were greatly rich, she was trying to follow and act like them. However, she was not be accepted to the prestigeous conglomerate because they knew that our home had a lot of debt and wanted to find a reliable source to borrow some money. Her rich classemates did not experience any of this situation before, so they were not able to empathize with a circumstance of ours. She was really depressed and shocked for hearing about that and realized that people tend to make a friend with its financial status.
On top of that, the rich and the poor cannot mingle each other because of thier different lifestyles. Not only has each of them different habits, even but also uses different tools and instruments when they play. This disparity might deter them from being close friends. For example, Seoul National University found a huge difference in habits between the rich and the poor households. 70 percent of he first group play golf as their pastime, but most of people in the second group play soccer. Furthermore, they reponded that they are not interested in what other classes play for their hobbies. This implies that different lifestyles might impact on a friendship and the gap between the rich and the poor cannot be supplemented in a relationship.
All things considered, I strongly believe that people in different financial statuses cannot be close friends after all for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in all, the importance of empathy and common habits that may be shared cannot be overestimated in a close friendship. |
