▶ Your Answer : Without doubt, heavy traffic in the big cities becomes one of social problem in recent days. Some people disagrees that government charges a fee to the people who drive their own car during rush hour, while others do not. Both side may have their own reasons to support their views. If I had to choose one, I would agree to impose a fee to person driving his or her own car in a crowded city during busy time. There are several reasons and examples as follows.
To begin with, Charging a fee can alleviate the air pollution. What I mean is that, number of individual vehicle is much greater than the one of commercial car in big cities. If a certain amount of fee is charged to these individual vehicles, air pollution can be dramatically reduced by fact that less people drive a car during rush hour. As a countermeasure, Beijing government begun to charge as high as $10 to individual drivers who commute every morning and evening time. Although the number of commercial vehicle remains unchanged, Individual drivers which account for 80% of total population begun to do car sharing with their company colleagues due to financial burden. Finally, traffic during rush hour has declined remarkably, the air quality is getting better these days.
On top of that, the charge to the individual driver will save a lot of people's time. That is, many people will use public transportation in order not to pay additional tax. It will reduce the traffic during rush hour and enable people to use the time for their leisure activity, not just to spend it on the road. Due to traffic jam during commuting time, It took around 1 hour to pass it through. Effective from January 2015, the Seoul government charged $20 on every individual vehicle. Recently, I can pass the tunnel without any traffic congestion and could save one hour every day. Thanks to this time saving, I can go to the gym and work out with my friends in the evening. |
