Some people think that
getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and having a positive attitude are effective
ways to become healthier. In my opinion, getting enough sleep is the most
important factor among the three ways mentioned above and there are several
reasons as follows.
To begin with, getting
enough sleep enables the reduction of stress. To elaborate in detail, when
people get enough sleep, they are able to recharge their batteries as well as
letting off some steam and relax in a comforting atmosphere. For instance, my
sister usually suffered from severe stress and felt dizzy frequently. My mother
then advised her to sleep early to get enough sleep and she followed her
advice. Before long, she was able to control her temper and also looked much
healthier with reduced cases of dizziness.
In addition, sleep is very
important for normal growth and immunity of adolescents. To be specific, during
stages of sleep, the body cells undergo division which leads to repair and
growth of the person. This is supported by a national survey carried out by the
South Korean government on 2000 young adults in the country. The survey
revealed that there was a strong correlation between the height of the participants
and the mean length of time they sleep. The same survey also showed that there
was a significant decrease in the number of white blood cells, which are the
key parts of the immune system, in participants who slept less than 5 hours a
day. The results clearly show that sleep is necessary for normal growth and
also highlights the danger of immunodeficiency in people without enough sleep.
To sum up, as sufficient
sleep is the only way to reduce stress as well as being necessary for growth
and immunity, it is the most important way to become healthy.
