Some people
think that the best films are those that provide lessons about real life. It is
true that movies with lessons may be beneficial to children. However, I am in
complete disagreement with the statement above as I believe that the quality of
the film is not affected by lessons in it. There are several reasons as
follows.
First of all,
most people watch movies to relieve stress. Movies with lessons are usually
unable to satisfy such consumers as the lessons give the movies grim
atmospheres. On the other hand, movies without such lessons, including actions,
comedies, or blockbusters, successfully entertains people by high quality
action scenes or humor. These types of movies also tend to have clear and
realistic computer graphics and suitable BGMs to decorate the movie. This is
supported by my personal experience. When I was studying during my exam period,
I suffered from severe stress. Therefore, I went to watch a comedy animation,
Ice Age 3. During the two hours of the movie, I completely forgot about the
exam and lost myself in the movie. I was able to refresh my mind and was able
to a lot better in the preparation of the exams.
In addition,
movies with moral lessons may have some side effects. To be specific, some of
the concepts may be misleading and may result in disastrous consequences. As
movies are fictional, it may contain may errors as well as inappropriate
portrayals of certain groups. This is most severe in films with religious content.
For example, films which have Christianity-related contents or ones affected by
the religion may depict Muslims or homosexuals as evil. This will lead to
anti-Islamic sentiment as well as discrimination of homosexuals. There are many
other ways the movies may contain immoral lessons or distorted histories.
To sum up, films
with lessons are usually not amusing and may be misleading or contain
inappropriate lessons. Therefore, I strongly believe that the quality of movies
are not affected by the lesson it contains.
