Some people might say that news articles and programs are correct and unbiased. However, in my understanding, I do not agree with them for two reasons concerning that broadcasting companies are sometimes in favor of certain companies that support them and articles tend to have the writers’ subjective views. To begin with, broadcasting companies need to be sponsored by businesses in order to run. In that point, they would have a difficulty dealing with incidents which might make a back impact on companies which back up the broadcasting since it might get back in a bad way. For example, last year, an article released by a small newspaper company became a hot potato, which was about series of sex scandal of Lee GunHee who is last president of Samsung. However, the ironic thing was that every big broadcasting company did not report it at all even though I think it was quite a big issue. As a result, it was totally covered up and there were just few those who knew that as well as me. Through this experience, what I realized was that broadcasting companies are unwilling to talk down big companies because it might affect themselves unfavorably and the news programs might not be accurate. On top of that, writers are highly likely to reflect their perspectives in articles. It is true that everything has both sides like a coin. As what side writers focus on, the outcome could seem to be good or bad. For instance, when our government tried to host the winter Olympics in Korea, all media concentrated on negative effects, which made the consensus view of citizens pessimistic about the Olympic. However, as soon as we got to be supposed to have 2018 PeongChang winter Olympic, all media reported economic effects according to the event. As a result, the public are all looking forward to it. This indicates that reporters, as they plan, could mislead viewers. To sum up, it is hard for broadcasting companies to stay neutral with the pressure of sponsors and reporters tend to put their own ideas in the articles. In this regard, I strongly believe that the news programs is an unreliable source of information. | |
