Some people think that parents should not
express their opinion to a teacher about how to teach their children. However,
contrary to this, it is true that parents should show a teacher their
disapproval about teaching methods if they are not satisfied with them. This is
because commenting on the disagreement prevents misunderstanding with a teacher
and gives motivation to him.
To
begin with, expressing disapproval towards a teacher is necessary for getting
rid of misunderstanding. To explain, if parents think that a teacher is awkward
at instructing his students in class, the parents will get worried and doubt
his qualification as an ordinary educator in school. Thus, he should be open to
the parents’ criticism so as to settle dissatisfaction over his lessons. This
will resolve dispute between the parents and the teacher. As an example, my one
of older brothers, Dooly, was a class teacher in an elementary school in Korea.
While he took charge of a class in the school, the class students had poorer
grades on mathematics, English, and science than before. Their parents
complained to him concerning the grades strongly. However, he was willing to accept
their demand that he should change his teaching styles and use different
textbooks. This leaded to improving the students’ school record and both the
parents and my friend were content with the result. As a result, it resolved a
conflict between the parents and Dooly.
On
top of that, giving disapproval regarding a teacher’s education make them
motivated. To be more specific, a teacher may fall into mannerism at his job as
time passes, which makes him neglectful of teaching his students in class.
However, if their parents give advice to him relating to the negligence, he
will get motivated to ameliorate his problem and make more efforts to teach the
students. From a survey researched by a professional education institution in
Korea, about ninety percent of primary school teachers responded that they became
stereotyped as time went by towards teaching skills, counselling with students,
and school activities. This caused negative influence on the students’
education and their parents required the teachers to rectify those matters
immediately. It encouraged them to figure out what drawbacks were in
preparation for a class, communication with the students, and duties in school.
Consequently, this made them passionate elementary school teachers.
In
conclusion, although some argues that it is not desirable for parents to express
discontent over class lessons to teachers, I firmly believe that parents have
to give comments or opinions related to any problem in their teaching methods. The
reason is that it helps not only preclude misunderstanding between teachers and
parents but also get motivated in their job. |
