Opinions might be divided
over whether which one is better way to learn about foreign countries between using
print media and visiting there immediately. We cannot deny the fact that
personal experiences play an important role in our lives. Personally,
therefore, I oppose the view that newspaper and magazines are better methods to
grasp features of foreign countries than someone’s two feet for the following
two reasons; gaps with the real and depth of understanding.
To start with, there are
differences between real world and text on media. Opponents of my perspective
claim that courtesy of development of technology media became able to provide
more details than before, with like pictures or videos in online newspapers and
magazines. Advocates’ claims may sound reasonable enough on the surface. Some
of their assertions may have merits. Nevertheless, their supporting is somewhat
unconvincing. Ample evidence shows that their claims are inadequate. Among
them, my personal examples can clarify why there are limits to know about foreign
countries without firsthand experience. Three years ago, I had a chance to go
France to participate in a seminar relevant with my major. Since I had not been
there before that, I could not help studying about French culture with some
books, which contain important table manners of them. It said that they have relatively
long time for dining about two of three hours. So when I took first lunch with
them I slow down speed to eat, while they ate up whole meal in an instant. The
books did not teach that French people tended to shorten meal time due to lack
of free time. If I had just read that books, I have would had outdated
information about them. The same applies to most people who learn about other
countries. They also have limitation to get living information.
Besides, when they experience real world, they can gain deep
comprehension of information about the countries. In addition to my personal anecdote,
a considerable body of research reaffirms my viewpoints. Apart from my personal
experience, a significant majority of survey participants support my point of
view. I read an editorial from the Chosun Ilbo that is related to the topic. It
said that children who have visited other countries have more accurate and long-term
memories about there than who just read the text and images from newspaper or
books. It demonstrates the importance of firsthand experience for better
acquire. This is why newspaper and magazines cannot provide bring with enough
understanding.
In summary, based on the examples related living information and
deep understanding, I can conclude that we should go to foreign countries
firsthand to learn about there. 쓰는 시간 줄이는 효과적인 팁이 있을까요? 너무 시간이 오래걸려서 걱정입니다.ㅠㅠ
