▶ Your Answer : Some people think that preventing children from watching television is necessary to make them study harder. However, in my opinion, television can help kids to study more harder. This is because children will be willing to study if parents let them watch TV as compensation and there are many educational TV programs that lead kids to have more interest in specific subjects. To begin with, parents can encouraged their children to concentrate on their study by awarding them free time to watch television. Not just inhibiting TV, providing appropriate time to watch TV when kids finish their assignments or study is good to make them get some motivation to study harder. For instance, when my brother was 12 years old, he was obsessed in TV programs and did not study diligently. So my parents allowed him to enjoy television only after ending his study. It was very effective. My brother studied much harder than before to watch TV programs. It shows that letting children watch TV can be applied as external impetus to study. On top of that, there are several TV programs which are educational and beneficial to study. These TV programs tend to deal with educational contents more interestingly than lecture and books. Therefore, it can trigger children’s interest in subjects and make them study harder. For example, a study was conducted by Seoul national university to determine whether educational TV programs produce positive attention to students’ study. The researchers had students watch TV program about Korea history and analyzed their interest in that topic. What they found was intriguing. After the TV program, the level of students’ interest about history increased. This was because program introduced history with visual materials and illustrated more easily, students could have more attention to that. This proves that in some cases, television can be beneficial to encourage students study harder. To sum up, TV is not the only factor that interrupts kids to study, but effective stimulus. Moreover, some TV programs handling educational issues can provoke children’s interest. In this regard, I think that parents should let children watch television to make them study harder. |
