Some people think that obtaining sufficient sleep or being optimistic is an excellent way to have better health. However, in my opinion, exercising daily is the best way to improve one’s health as it makes the immune system stronger and provides psychological benefits.
To begin with, exercising routinely strengthens the immune system. When our body’s defense system is strong, we are less susceptible to illnesses that are caused by viruses or bacteria, such as the common cold. As a result, we become ill less often. For instance, I used to have an inactive lifestyle. Even though I slept eight hours per day, I still got sick often. I caught a cold several times each year, and the symptoms were often very severe. Two years ago, however, I began exercising for 30 minutes each day. Since then, I never get sick. Ii have not had a single cold, nor have I suffered from any other illnesses. This is because my immune system is now much stronger as a result of regular exercise.
On top of that, regular exercise is a great way to improve one’ mental health. Exercising each day leads to an increase in the serotonin levels of the brain. This natural chemical is known to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Although a positive mind-set is difficult to maintain when one is under a lot of pressure, exercise is always an effective way to manage stress because of this physiological process. For example, a recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found a strong link between regular exercise and improved mental well-being. Researchers analyzed survey results from 20,000 British adults and found that those who exercised for 20 minutes each day were 40 percent less likely to suffer from significant levels of stress and anxiety. This study demonstrates that exercising on a regular basis has psychological benefits.
