▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage
contends that privatizing in infrastructure industries have positive effects on
governments’ profits and efficiency of infrastructure industries. However, the
lecturer insists that there are many disadvantages of privatizing in these industries
and governments control infrastructure industries better than private
companies. With regard to this, the speaker brings up several points that
contradict former argument.
First
of all, the lecturer states that governments cannot net billion dollars by
selling industries although governments need influx of cash. Moreover,
governments run industries for all citizens. This counters the reading passage’s
assertion that governments have raised astonishing profits through selling diverse
industries.
Second,
the speaker indicates that people will do not have the choice since monopoly if
governments sell infrastructure industries to private companies. Actually it is
not fair. Furthermore, for instance, an new owner of the infrastructure
industry lays off twenty percent of the workforce. These fired employees could
not support their family. It means that governments’ sources of incomes must
have decreased. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s claim that
privatizing improves productivity of infrastructure.
Last,
the speaker admits
that companies like the
Apple, the Amazon and the Microsoft have the tendency to introduce faster than
governments. However, according to the
lecture, it is not a bad thing that governments institute new technology
slowly. This is because new technology causes plethora of problems. This
refutes the reading passage’s explanation that private companies are inclined
to institute new technology
rather than government-owned companies are.
