Some people may think that knowledge gained from books is more significant than the ones you gained from your experience. Also, they might say that the books take a vital place for gaining knowledge. However, in my opinion, I truly believe that a personal experience overwhelms knowledge from a book.
To begin with, knowledges you have gained from your personal experience is unforgettable compared to books. Your brain is the only structure to use when reading a book. But when it comes to a personal experience, your whole body senses it. This means that your body, including your brain, remembers the knowledge and it helps you not to make a same mistake that you have made in the past. For example, I have read about 100 books while serving in Republic of Korean Army. Frankly speaking, I don't recall a single information from 100 books as of now. It feels like I have wasted my time on reading books. On top of that, It's really hard to apply the knowledge you got from books to real life. Unless you memorize every single word from it, it's very difficult for you to use it when you are in need. But a personal experience is different. For instance, I went on a trip to Thailand about 3 years ago with a friend of mine. It was well-going until I found out I lost my passport in airport. Thus, I had to rearrange my plane ticket and it was such a mind blowing experience. However, this experience helped me on a recent trip to Turkey in 2015. Because I had an experience about losing a passport, I was able to pull myself up and carry my passport in a secured pocket. In conclusion, even though books are still a great way to obtain knowledges, I would say personal experience does it better. In this regard, I believe that knowledges gained from experience is more important than knowledges from books for the reasons I mentioned above. |
