▶ Your Answer : Some people think that offering students their scores is beneficial to promote learning. However, in my opinion, there are several advantages of providing grades to students to stimulate learning. Due to presented grades, students can know their condition in learning. Also, scores can be the motivation of studying for students. To begin with, it is possible that students are able to recognize their extent of comprehension with subjects and put their effort on studying when feedbacks are given. That is, students can know what they are missing and what is needed to improve their abilities thanks to grades. For example, I am postgraduate students now. Last semester, I took a course about design history and that was the one of subjects that I really wanted to learn. To study harder and get an A+, I asked a professor to provide some feedbacks about my report. And she gave me some comments and the grade of it, so I could know about my state and level. It also made me study harder and I was able to obtain A+ eventually. On top of that, grades can be a motivation to learning for students. Without any presented grades, students are more likely to less concentrate on their study and their level cannot be increased. A study was conducted by Seoul National University to determine whether notifying grades to students could affect their tendency to studying more. The researchers compared two groups with each other. The first group consisted of students who were given grades and the other one was formed with students who were not noticed any scores. What they found was interesting. The former tended to have more effort to learn because some were alarmed that their grade was low and others was encouraged by good grade. The results shows that feedbacks can inspire students to study hard. To sum up, students can make complement on their learning by knowing their states and can be stimulated by positive or negative results. In this regard, I feel that providing marks with students is good to promotes learning. |
