■ Some people might insist it was easier to know which occupation will lead to the success in these days than before given the specific information about the job in these days. In my opinion, however, it was way easier to figure out the job leading to the success in the past than today. The basis for my position is that the kinds of the occupation were fewer in the past and it was more evident that which jobs were needed by the society in the past.
To begin with, the variety of the jobs were fewer in the past. Therefore, the possibility that the jobs will lead to the success was higher. However, in these days, there were a lot of unheard of jobs in the society. Therefore, it became nearly impossible to predict whether such jobs could make people's life stable and successful or not. There was a research done by Seoul University about this topic. They compared the kinds of the jobs in the past and these days. They found that there were a lot of new jobs starting from a physical therapist to a fund manager in modern days. They said all of these jobs did not exist in the past. They also commented due to the sheer number of new kind of jobs, the predicting the prospect of the jobs became almost impossible. This research reveals the increasing number of the jobs made it harder to know the jobs will lead to a prosperity.
On top of that, the jobs a society needed were more evident in the past. Today, there are a lot of different needs in the society about the jobs on account of a complex property of a society. Therefore, It is really difficult to exactly point out which jobs are needed by the society. However, in the past, the jobs that the society sought were obvious. This can be seen in Korea's history. In 1960, during the rapid growth of Korea's economy and industry, there were great demands for construction site. Also, during the 1980, the period of advent of the interent, getting the jobs related to the computer was the key to success. However, today, there is no definite demands for particular jobs. All of the needs were so convoluted that we cannot know the future of the work.
In a nutshell, the kinds of the jobs were fewer and the society's demands for the jobs was more obvious in the past. Considering this, I think it is safe to say that it was more predictable which jobs will lead to success in the past.
