▶ Your Answer :
Which one is important between to keep old friends
and to make new friends is a controversial topic undergoing serious debate. Two
different opinions exist in regard to this issue. After considering the issue
from several aspects, personally, I agree with the idea that keeping old friend
is much more significant to people than making new friends for the following
two reasons. The first is that people get stressed out over meeting new friends.
Second is that old friends have known each other well. Some may oppose to the opinion, but first
it assures that meeting old friends makes them comfortable while meeting new
friends makes them nervous. While many consider that people get funny by having
time with new friends. However, we cannot deny the fact that people usually try
something new to be familiar with new friends. And it makes them concerned and stressed
out. For example, when I was freshman in college, I had no friends. I had to
make new friends. So, I was participated in every event related to my major
although I didn’t want to attend. Finally, I was a little familiar with some
friends. But, I had to do what I didn’t want, and it made gave me lots of
stress. With this experience, I figured out that making new friends is really
tough and makes me exhausted. That is, it is better to keep old friends than to
make new friends. On top of that, since old friends have had
lots of time together, they can understand and empathy each other better than
new friends. Although it may not be favored by the majority of our society, I
believe that old friends can be considerate of each other and comfort each
other better than new friends. According to the recent research, the majority
have agreed that they have been comforted by their old friends when they went
through hard time. In addition, a well-known professor of Seoul National
University in this field published an editorial in his study and as a result,
his study supported my view. They survey claims that 75% of participants
preferred having old friends because they can relate to each other and relieve
each other’s stress. Also, the professor mentioned that it is much better for
one’s mental health to keep old friends than to make new friends.
To conclude, I strongly argue that my
standpoints of two reasons are sufficiently convincing. The first is that
having old friends makes them relaxing while making new friends makes them
uncomfortable. Also, old friends can understand each other well. In this
regard, I believe that keeping old friends is much better in many ways than to
make new friends. |
