▶ Your Answer : Considering a country's development, economic and academic developments are
mainly discussed. Also, these days, it seems that the importance of education
related to the development of a country is getting higher than ever before. Regarding
this social trend, some people might argue that educating young children rather
than university students can be better for a country's development. However, I
go along with the idea that educating college students is an efficient way for
a country's progress. Two reasons will be discussed as basic but crucial reasons
as to why my point should be regarded; educating college students is fastest
way for economic development, and also easiest way for academic development.
Most importantly, educating university students can be fastest way
to make economic development. In
general, Gross Domestic Product(GDP) is used for typical indicator about economic
development which is core for country's development and GDP consists of Consumption(C),
Investment(I), Government expenditure(G), and Net export(NX). As the society becomes
globalized, the importance of NX is getting higher. Since all kinds of
technological development, new ideas or inventions, and high quality of services
which can be exported are produced only by humans, the biggest determinant of
NX is 'human resources.' To be specific, educating college students intensively
who are learning various liberal arts and trying to think creatively is the
fastest way in order to raise competitive power of human resources. Consequently,
it will increase the power of a country by improving the level of NX. Of
course, teaching young children might have same effects 'in the future.' In
other words, however, it means that it is not the fastest way to develop a
country's economic power because people should spend more time for educating
young children until they reach the age of college students. Therefore,
educating college students by spending less time and increasing NX faster
should be regarded rather than teaching young children.
On top of that, academic development would be achieved easily by
college students. It is true that the level of country's global awareness is
really important for developing a country. Although population, the level of
wealth, or famous tourist spots can be considered to raise degree of
recognition for one country, academically developed countries like winning a
Nobel Prize continue their reputation for a long time. By educating college
students, this could be achieved easily. To be specific, compared to young
children who learn all kinds of study in a shallow level, college students
choose their own majors and minors and learn deeply for almost 4 years. This
could lead university students to know well especially for their majors in
detail, so that they could reach academic development just by studying their
subjects sincerely. According to the research about 'the Nobel Prize' conducted
by International Research Company, it revealed that top 10 countries which win
the Nobel Prize for more than 20 times since 1990s spent almost 30 percent of
their budgets on college education such as inviting renowned professors and
deepening specialty for students' majors. This result demonstrates that most
academically advanced countries devoted to the education for college students
to increase the power of country. |
