In the reading passage, there is ample support for the author’s claim that there are several ways to sequestrate CO2 levels in atmosphere. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s point.
First, the professor contends that supplying a lot of iron into the ocean is not plausible. He says that when phytoplankton multiplies, they run out of N2 and eventually its population will decrease. Moreover, according to the study, only 3% of CO2 is stored. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s claim that feeding more iron to phytoplankton is effective to absorb CO2.
Next, the professor insists that making artificial wetlands is not effective. This is because man-made wetlands’ storage is less than natural ones. Also, it needs a long time to be fully developed. So, it will be too late to solve the global warming. This counters the reading passage’s assertion that creating manned wetlands can help bacteria and forest to rot organic matter more slowly and to release CO2.
Finally, the professor argues that storing in coal mines is
problematic. When methane is extracted, they
