As time goes by, students have obtained more freedom to choose the courses to study in many countries. This freedom will be further extended to choosing the place where students want to study. I assume in the future, many students, who are given the chance to select the place to study, would choose to study at home because it is comfortable. However, I would absolutely choose to study at traditional classrooms because it is easy to participate in discussions and more sources are available in classrooms.
Discussion and sharing opinions are indispensable parts of effective learning. Traditional classrooms offer the opportunity to participate in discussions because students study together face-to-face. Therefore, students can acquire knowledge more effectively. However, unlike studying at traditional classrooms, people who study at home by themselves by viewing to recorded lectures, they lack the essential part of learning, discussion. Thus, they might study as effectively as it is to study with joining in discussions.
Additionally, students who take courses with others at traditional classrooms are more likely to improve their interpersonal and communication skills. This is because at school, students continuously interact with their peers; thus, they might learn how to be sociable. However, students who study by themselves tend to be more shy and introvert because most of them spend their time alone. From my personal experience, when I got into high school, there was one student who was being home-schooled for 5 years, and she struggled associating with other students because she was not used to socialize with others.
More importantly, students are able to have more resources at their disposal. At school, teachers are available for most of the time; thus, peers can ask questions face-to-face and get solutions quickly. However, when one studies by watching recorded lectures, he or she has to send an e-mail and wait until the Internet teacher replies. This can be inconvenient, particularly, for inquisitive students, who might get frustrated.
Getting education at traditional classrooms offers more benefits than studying at home. Although, learners can study in the comfort of their home, the disadvantages of studying at home outweigh the advantages. Therefore, if I were to choose the place to study, I would definitely study at traditional classrooms. |
