After graduating from university, most students are bound to having trouble with finding jobs. Finding jobs is considered to be one of the most important decisions in one’s life, since it affects greatly to his or her life. Some people believe that being happy with a job is better than having a high salary. From my point of view, however, being satisfied with one’s job is the priority for some reasons. Firstly, money cannot buy me happiness. Also, one can be more successful, if he or she likes the job.
Having much money, but unhappy. One thinks that it is an irony. However, it can be true in our lives. It is because money cannot bring out happiness. Generally speaking, the goal of making money is to be happy. However, if one does not like his or her works and is stuck in dull jobs, he might not be happy but rather stressed out. To illustrate this idea, my older brother, previous competent government official of Korea, retired from his job in his early age. He often said to me that the job was not germane to him, and he wanted to get another job, even if it would pay less than his incumbent work. Actually, he usually looked pale because of stress and high load of works. Consequently, he eventually stopped working for the government and recently found a new job, a school teacher. Now he says he is very satisfied with his job since he loves it and enjoys it.
On top of that, I am certain that one can be more competent when he or she enjoys work. In fact, there is no use working, if the worker has no volition and interests. Usually, when workers do not like their jobs and begrudge to do them, their work efficiency will be lower and lower and will be getting worse. In contrast, if they enjoy their works, they will be motivated to work hard and will work effectively because not only do they enjoy them and but there is also not stress at work. Steve Jobs, a CEO of Apple company, can be the best example of this idea. He started his business in a small garage. Although his working condition and fund were terrible and harsh, he did not give up his work. It is mainly because he loved to work with computer. His mind eventually resulted in an efficiency and motivation in his work, and finally played a key role in his marvelous success.
To put it in a nutshell, I firmly believe that being happy with jobs is much more imperative than earning much money for the reasons that I have mentioned above. There is a proverb in Korea like this, “A person who works hard cannot keep up with one who enjoys it.” If one tries to find a job, he or she should set the priority on matching his or her aptitude and interests with jobs.
