I'm certain that young people less contribute to local community rather than the past. There are two reasons why I feel this way. One reason for my argument is that the development of industry society makes young people only concentrate on their works. The other reason is that expanding of individualism let young people have no interests in other people's works.
First, modern young people tend to focus on only their school works or lives. In the past, a lot of young people engage in community works in various aspects: economy, culture, or society, since most people participate in agriculture society that requires many labors. However, development of industry enables young people to concentrate on pursuit to knowledge. Most students spend their time studying or taking classes in order to improve themselves rather than development of community. In the end, according to a certain research, there are few students who do not go to school so that they want to other works which can contribute to community; this research shows that contribution of modern young people is nearly the lowest level for 50 years after agriculture society changed to industry society. Therefore, we cannot anticipate young people's contribution to modern society in these days.
Also, increasing in individualism keeps young people from engaging in community. With change of society's atmosphere to industry society, most parents want their children to become very well in study. So parents let their students concentrate on their works only without consideration of others. This phenomenon has spoiled their children. Furthermore, most children become individualistic people who do not care other people's works at all. For example, young people raised in that way never take part in community's event such as environment protection campaign or helping poor people event. Such phenomenon will lead community a place hard to live. Eventually, individualistic thinking spurs people to take care only their works without any interest to others.
In conclusion, for these reasons, I strongly agree with the statement that young people is never helpful in modern society. |
