In these days, there are ongoing controversies about giving equal chance to receive higher education to every student. Some people say that it is their rights to be treated equally while others raise a question about its effectiveness. However, I have a viewpoint that higher education must be available only to those who are doing good at school. It is because poor students cannot keep up with tough class and good students can be a good stimulus to each others.
To begin with, unfortunately, students with poor grades are not easy to adapt to difficult class. Since teachers focuses their teaching levels to outstanding students, it is obviously hard for students those are in bad shape. When I was in high school, one day our principal decided to make a high-leveled class, which is teaching more deepened matters. Since this class was free to every student who volunteers, the class was soon full up. In the beginning, every student began studying with enthusiasm, but soon problems occurred. The matter were the students who couldn't keep up with the class. They soon felt bored with the lessons that they couldn't understand. They kept dozed off in class and made much noise which definitely spoiled the academic atmosphere. Even some were habitually missing the class. As a result, the class was removed in time and newly created another class allowing only good students. As we can see here, teaching difficult matters to all students in a class can be a lose to both good and poor students.
Moreover, good students can be a nice competitor to one another. Usually good students always try to be infront of the others and thus they can compete in good faith with both learning and teaching each others. My little brother entered a special-education school a short time ago.Since the school had a policy to only admitting students those were in top 2% in their before school, I was little bit worried about him being stressed among those prominent classmates. However after a month, I heard a suprising word from his mouth. He told me that he is really gratified with the academic mood and gets lots of help from peers unless going through hard time. He emphasized that every student was a nice rival, and at the same time, a faithful teacher. He was appreciably studying even harder than before, trying not to get behind in class and seemed to be more enjoying the school studies. Like this, a class with the same high-leveled students allows them to be mutually benefited.
Needless to say, every student has rights to receive equal education. However it does not mean that they are forced to attend a class which is not fit for their states. To think of the poor students getting hard time in understanding tough teachings and good students' being good competitors to each others, higher education should be allowed to only who can afford it. |
