Personally, I strongly agree with the above statement for the following two reasons. First, imposing higher prices of gasoline and electricity is the most effective way to stop people from using as much of it. Second, there is not yet fully developed alternative energy resources.
First of all, the government needs to discourage people to use energy as much of it by imposing higher prices on them. This is largely due to the fact that our gasoline and fuel energy resources are depleting very quickly, and thus it will pose a serious risk to our survival in the future. In this sense, people have to save energy as much as possible, and the government should restrict the use of energy by increasing its price.
For example, a decade ago, the government advised citizens to conserve the use of energy during hot summer season. However, despite this advice, people did not stop using fans of cooling, and energy consumption did not decrease. Recently, the government announced strict policy, which drives people to save energy by charging double for their energy consumption during peak times. Surprisingly after this policy, the use of energy significantly declined since people did not endure increasing financial burden.
In addition, there is no alternative energy that can replace fuel energy. Some may argue that the advancement of alternative energy can contribute to conservation of energy to some degree.
However, alternative energy is neither fully developed nor fully applied. According to a study recently released by the Korean National Research Center, surveyed energy specialists argued mentioned that alternative energy is not likely to be applied to our society for the time being because it is just a step on the beginning.. Given this, to conserve energy, the governments have to take the measure of increasing the price of gasoline and electricity.
For these reasons, I definitely believe that it is the only way for the government to increase the price of using energy resources. This is largely due to the fact that imposing higher prices to energy usage is not only the most efficient way for saving energy to people but also alternative energy can not be broadly implemented yet. |
