Nowadays, there is an argument regarding the issue whether it is constantly better to study with a teacher or not. One might argue that learning from a teacher would provide more direct and practical information for the student. Nevertheless, from my point of view, I partialy disagree with the statement above. This is largely because being with a teacher furnishes student a lot of pressure, what is more,
student should accustom himself to study.
To start with, as far as students are concerned, as everyone knows, being with a teacher can make student nervous. This is because teachers are usually older and do not let student to make a mistake.
It is well known that it is a teacher's responsibility to teach student more knowledge, however, staying in a huge pressure causes adverse effects. To demonstrate my point, according to the study conducted by the harverd in 2003, students are more likely to be fraustrated whenever a teacher is near and as a result, students who were being with a teacher for a long time received lower grades than those who were not with a teacher. As the study shows, stressful students cannot fully concentrate on tasks and they are so uncomfortable that they made more mistakes than the others. Hence, it is not a great idea to learn from a teacher for a long time.
Furthermore, in general, it is not possible for a student to be permanently with a teacher while they are studying. Once students get a help from a teacher, they would not actively devoted to learn because there are more quick and direct way to solve a problem which is to ask a teacher for an answer. In this sense, even though a teacher can deliver many informations for a students, they would not stand on their own. In my personal experience, my father used to be a math teacher in highschool, so whenever I got closed to an exam, I asked my father to help me on my problems. Of course, at first time, it worked and I kept asking my father for a help everytime I needed him. Unfortunately, once my father were send to brazil for a bussiness, I absolutely paniced and failed the exam that I prepared for. At that moment, I realized that how much I relied on my father's help and did not do it on my own. Since then, I practiced all my might and main to independent from him and as a result, I could get a all A on my last report card.
As you can see from my personal example, always studying with a teacher would bring up disaster in the future because students would fully rely on a teacher than themselves. |
