Every student in this country must have experienced the exam about what they learned. This exam is usually taken regularly and gives results about what degree of study students are at or how much knowledge they have achieved. I firmly believe these kinds of tests can encourage students to learn.
First of all, students study hard to prepare for the exam and to gain higher grades. During this preparation they can summarize what they have learned and memorize knowledge. According to a survey of high school students, the time that students concentrate on their study the most was mid-term or final exam periods. Compared to the period without a test, the amount of study time was significantly a lot. And the quality of study also was much better. As it shows examinations stimulate students to study hard and concentrate on learning.
Furthermore, an exam provides feedbacks about the strengths and weaknesses of a student. Using the result of a test, a student can be encouraged by his or her strengths and compensate his or her shortcomings. For example, I had several pre-tests for the real-test of SAT in South Korea when I was in high school. Through taking these pre-tests, I could estimate my study exactly and studied hard to replenish my weak point. And I could achieve the grade that I aimed at. Not only that, I also got to know the joy of learning through this time and this motivated me. As a result, feedbacks revealed by a test encourage students to learn more.
In conclusion, I suggest that examinations are helpful for students to learn more in many ways. Not only the test itself is a motivation to study hard, also the test's results which show the status of students can provide good direction to study. Therefore, students need to use the test for their improvements. |
