The qualities of a good child constantly change as time goes by. Based on my Korean culture, in the past, children who dedicated their whole life to their parents and lived long enough to produce offspring were considered ideal behaved children. This was because numerous little children died of epidemics, for example, such as chicken pox. However, as time passed by, this value has changed and now children who earn a huge amount of money and has have high social status are now often considered good daughters or sons.
Today's society is highly materialistic(이미 물질주의란 뜻이니깐 about money는 생략해주세요:) about money, in other words, it is not an overstatement too much to say that the majority of the people on the Earth significantly value money. Many parents start early education in order to help their children to be successful in they his life; most Korean parents consider (conceive 하면 생각해내다란 뜻이 되서 문맥상 consider 나 regard가 어울릴듯:) conceive a high salary as success. Therefore, when a child makes a huge sum of money, parents feel accomplished. This is because parents are fulfilled by the fact that their efforts paid back. Furthermore, in my country, Korea, when one's child earns millions of dollars, he shows his appreciation to his parents' hard work by dedicating the most of his money to them. As a result, parents are gratified by the sense of accomplishment and money provided by their children.
Furthermore, if one's child has a high social status, people call them a good child in my country, Korea. In my country, prominent social status means success in addition to having a large amount of money. This is mainly because there are countless benefits that high social status offer. For instance, if one's son is a government officer, he or she earns monthly salary for the rest of their lives gets money monthly and does not pay tax. In this way, his son lessened his financial burden; therefore, he is considered a good son. =이것도 돈에 관련된 것 같긴 해요 ~ 공무원이 되면 왜 좋아하는지 돈 관련된거 말고 쓰면 더 좋을듯해요:)
In my country, Korea, people who make much money and are high-ranked are considered good children because their money and their job offers countless benefits to their parents. When I tell my American friends about Korean kids giving salaries to their parents, they get shocked. I think it is interesting that every culture has different requirements to fulfill in order to be a good child. |
