It is often said that exams can be the best motivation for students to study. Some people may be opposed to this statement because the real purpose of study is not the result of test. However, I definitely believe that exams play a significant role in improving student's understaning about subjects. One significant reason is that exams make students more focus on their classes. What is more, students can be more competitive by exams.
First of all, students are more likely to participate in classes by exams. This is because students want to get a good grade and classes provide clues about the test. In other words, students become to concentrate on classes to get a satisfactory result of test, improve their understanding on the class. For example, a recent study shows that students who rank in high level tend to focus on class, taking part in discussion or representation more eagerly than students who have low grade. In addition, students getting high grade answered that the result of exams give them the biggest stimulation for studying. This shows that how important and significant exam is.
Also, tests encourage students to compete with peers, which makes them developed. It can be achieved by exam's characteristic which suggests obvious results such as precise number or classified group. This makes it possible for students to compare their test result with other's and be motivated. For instance, when I had a midterm in a high school senior, I was pretty satisfied with my English grade. However, after compared with friend's grade who had always had similar marks with me, I was disappointed with my ramification. So, I decided that I would get better grade than the friend's in the next exam and studied really hard. As a result, I acquired the best result I've never got everbefore.
On the whole, I absolutely argues that exams can be the most useful incentive for students. The exams not only hearten students to partake in calsses more diligently, but also provoke good competition between students. |
