It is often said that electronic books cannot replace paper books yet. Some people may be opposed to this statement becuase the technical progress on computer is surprisingly ongoing and the electronic books has have many advantages to the extent to enoughly exchange the original mechanism of books. However, I definitely believe that it is impossible for the paper books to be eliminated by the electronic books within 20 years since people are not accustomed to the computer books and also, they want more progress which cannot be satisfied with today's skills.
First of all, the electronic books are too unfamiliar to be commonly used by people. They get used to the paper books which are utilized as a medium during thousands of years. What is more, the huge gap of using methouds methods between paper and computer books is big problem. For exmaple, I was so embarrassed when I took an Internet based TOEFL test first. This is because I have to slove all questions with a computer which not familiar for me. During all test time, I wanted to lay down give up the test the monitor and line under the important sentences like I always had had on the paper books especially on the reading test section. I could not concentrate on the moniter. Consequently, I had a poor grade at reading section and regretted about that I didn't study with the computer. This shows that the computer books would take much amount of time to be familiar with users.
Also, there are so many required equipments for having the computer books techniques which computer books have to equip with. In other words, technical progress to gratify almost all users is not sufficient. People are complaining about their eye fatigue after they work with using computers for a long time and cast doubts on computer's negative effect on their health. For instance, according to the a study from the ministry of health and welfare of Korea in 2007, 70% people of computer relevant workers worried about the negative influence from computers and answered that they feel tired after using computer. Therefore, it is required for the computer books to achieve technical development, which have has no harmful effects on users.
On the whole, I absolutely believe that the paper books need much more time to be a first priority by a medium of words. This is because they have problems to solve such as deficient techniques related to user's health and uncomfortableness. |
