sports and social activities should be given same financial support as classes and libraries. |
University is the place where students can attain lots of knowledges which have been accumulated for a long time by many professors and have various experiences with club or social activities run by students or school . However, the school's main purpose should be based on offering high quality of education to students not supporting a sports and social activities in school because students enter the university to learn something valuable from their professor. Therefore, supporting those social and sports activities for students financially as much as education doesn't seem to be a good idea. First of all, participating in various social activities or enjoying sports is possible out of a school. In modern days, there are lots of social activities for students who want to participate in out of a school and also, it's easy for students to find those activities on the web or magazine. For example, now I am taking a jazz dance class which is operated by my local community without paying any lesson fee even though there are some clubs related to dance in our school. According to a research conducted by Korea university, more than 75% of students are participating in various activities out of a school because it is more beneficial for students to enjoy these programs rather than those in school. Of course, some people say that school can also play very important role in providing students chance to socialize with various friends and to maintain good health by using sports facilities which is equipped in school. However, offering the best condition where students can receive improved quality of education is more likely to be university's most important function. Second, establishing various social programs or facilities at school could be connected to students's financial burden. In korea, most of the students are suffering from surprisingly increasing tuition fee every year in the name of supporting lots of sports facilities or social activity for students even though its facitilities is not efficiently operated or used by students at all. For example, my university built a new gym at the expense of some part of the tuition fee last year. However, the problem is that there are not many students who are using this facility because they are always busy concerning their grade while they are studying very hard in library. According to a research by Time magazine in 2006, what more than 83% students want their school to support is quality of education such as building a new library not social activities offered by school. Of course, some people say that most of the new social and sports facilities supported by school are only from 15% of the tuition fee of students. However, it seems to be much wiser for school to spend their money on offering much better education for students.
