Lots of people often dream of going back to past using time machine. Because history is something man cannot get in touch with directly, people just imagine themselves going back to the period in the past and living in that age, but the imagination itself is fascinating enough since there are many attractive historical periods. When it comes to me, I would go back to medieval age of England, because I would be able to experience cultures and customs lively and also study Middle Age English.
To begin with, historical relics and traditions of England are quite fascinating to me. England is obviously the country with one of the longest and greatest historic cultures and sites in the world. Its traditional values and behavioral system are the basis of modern western culture and still affect tons of people. And most of its fundamental historical buildings, mental values and customs were established in medieval age. Therefore, I could experience those awesome relics and cultural heritages through my eyes if I went back to that age. To be specific, I could observe detailed behaviors of so-called ‘English gentlemen’, visit historical sites at the right time they were built, and watch serious wars or diplomatic conflicts between other countries – which could offer invaluable knowledge to me.
Not only that, I could deeply study English as a subject of study. As I am majoring in English literature in university, I am really interested in English as a subject of academic research, especially in a series of change English has gone through for the entire history of it. Consequently, living in the medieval age of England would provide me with priceless information and practical uses of medieval English, enabling me to broaden my academic knowledge and acquire mental satisfaction. Furthermore, as I am a big fan of English novels and plays written by writers like Shakespeare, I would be able to understand those works much more thoroughly.
To summarize, if I have a chance to use magical time machine I want to go back to medieval age of England, because I could learn its extraordinary historical relics and cultures, and have opportunity to study medieval English. England has always been one of my favorite countries, so living in the age of cultural culmination of it would be unforgettable experience to me. |
