#52 It is better to do things one after another than to do things at the same time. Do you agree or disagree? |
Have you ever failed to finish your work on due day because you did several kinds of work at the same time? People have different opinions on whether it is better to do things one after another than to do things at the same time. However, I agree with the idea for two reasons. First, doing things one after another gives you a sense of achievement. Second, doing things one after another is more efficient than doing things at the same time. Finishing things one after another encourages people to get a sense of achievement. When people do several things at the same time, finishing one thing takes so much time that they are not able to obtain any sense of achievement. In contrast, doing things one after another helps them to gain a sense of achievement every time they finish each thing. I took three difficult and challenging courses one year ago. There were tones of homework. At first, I did homework of all the subjects at the same time. It took plenty of time to finish one thing. So, I was getting tired and wasn’t able to submit some of the homework. Consequently, I changed my way to do my homework. I did assignments one after another. This helped me concentrate on one assignment and then I obtained a sense of achievement every moment I finished each assignment. Naturally, I was encouraged to keep doing all the homework and finished the courses successfully. It helps people keep doing their work to finish each thing in sequence. Sequential working is more effective than simultaneous working. When people do several things at the same time, they should spend their time deciding whether they would continue to work at the time they get back to another work or what work they should do in turn. On the contrary, people, who concentrate one thing at a time, can work more effectively without wasting time. Last semester, I took a course with one of my friends. That was a computer programming course, so there was a computer programming project for each student. My friend did his homework and the project at the same time. Sometimes, he spent lots of time looking for what he wrote and what he didn’t write on the source code of the project. Moreover, he forgot what he wrote on the part of his source code for. He finished his project one minute before the due time. I, however, had already done the project a week before because I concentrated on each of my assignments separately and didn’t consume my time considering different things. Thus, I was able to finish my homework effectively focusing on one thing at a time. In conclusion, to focus one thing at a time is better than to focus on several things at the same time. As I mentioned above, since finishing things one after another encourages people to get a sense of achievement, they will be able to finish their work successfully. Additionally, by finishing one task after another, people maintain concentration on the work without any time-consuming and they work more effectively than when they do everything at the same time. |
