The reading passage argues that playing video games for the young is detrimental because of addiction, aggressive behaviors, and time wasted. But the lecturer rebuffs those effectively by examining several studies on youth behavior.
First, the lecturer argues that all attractive things can be addictive. Shown on a youth behavior statistic, time consumed on watching TV is much dominant than which consumed on playing video games. Thus, it reveals that addicting to playing video games is just a common phenomenon since all things we like can put us in addiction. This strongly contradicts the point in the reading that addictiveness of playing video games puts young people in abnormal behaviors like compulsive actions and lose of interest in other activities.
Next, he also disproves that aggressive behaviors and even violences are caused mainly by playing video games as mentioned in the reading passage. Many variables of causing aggressive behavior exist and some of the results concerning youth violences are often unrelated to the young playing video games. Additionally, he mentions that the bad behavior rate by young people has been the lowest since video games are popularized.
Finally, the lecturer strongly argues that playing video games has some positive effects on young people's daily lives. It hampers them from making troubles by having them stayed inside of their houses. And co-relationship with intelligence has been in the light that playing video games can effectively help youngsters develope important skills like swift solving problem process, fast decision making, and fast reaction time. This positive sides of the video games contradicts the reading passage's claims that playing video game is just a wasting time and not useful for the young.
