Both the reading passage and listening passage discuss the topic of the
Chevalier de seignglt' memoir. The author of the reading passage argues that
the memoir has lots of controversy and this memoir is distorted whereas the
lecturer of listening passage contradicts the reading. The two passages each
provide three reasons to support their argument.
To begin with, according to
the article, memoir show the Chevalier is rich and spend an amount of money on
gambling and parties, but historians discovery evidence that the Chevalier
frequently used to borrow money from merchant, meaning that he is not wealthy.
However, the speaker argues that the Chevalier are not poor, but rather he is
rich. The reason why he borrows considerable money from merchants is to convert
his asset into real cash.
Furthermore, it is also
argued that memoir which is written down conversation with famous writers and
king is dubious in that the Chevlier write down this conversation many years
after he converse with them. On the contrary, the lecturer points out that it
is possible to write down conversation part because Chevalier have habit in
recording his daily life at night. Also, wetnesses conform that the Chevlier had
consult journals.
Finally, the reading passage points out that Chevalier escaped from a
notorious prison in Venice and he provide jailer with bribe in order to run
away from cell. Also, by using a piece
of tool to make a hole in the celling and climbing through the roof, he run
away from the Venetian prison. On the other hand, the professor says that
Chevalier do not offer jailer with bribe. In addition, His cell' ceiling is
repaired, which means that he could not escape from the prison. |
