Some people think that competing
with friends is not good for friendships. However, in my opinion, competition
with friends have has positive effects on
friendships for two reasons. First of all, people can improve their knowledges
and skills. In addition, competition helps
people be mentally mature.
To begin with, people can get
better abilities with proper competition. Without competition, people will not
do their best because there are no motivations. However, people try much harder
when they compete with someone since they want to win. As a result, it is
possible to build up much information and enhance better skills. For example,
according to a survey conducted by UCLA’s research department, about 80 percent
of participants reported that they could develop their capacities after having
competition with peers. The reasons for this was that they studied or
practiced sports a lot to win the competition. They also mentioned that both the winner and loser who won and who did not win
could improve their abilities. Thus, it is evident that people can grow by
having competition.
On top of that, competition makes
people grow mature. This is because people can learn and feel many things
during competition. For instance, when I was in high school, I engaged in a
cooking contest with my friends as a group. My friends and me I had to show great cooperations and results to
get a higher score. It was not easy but we tried our best and learned how to
cooperate and how to control our minds when we competed with other groups.
After competition, we did not get a prize but we felt a
strong sense of fulfillment because we had a valuable experience and learned
many things. I felt as if my mind matured compared to
than before. Consequently, competition helps people have spiritual
maturity.
To sum up, people can
grow intelligently and be mentally mature by having competition. In this
regard, I believe that competition between friends is beneficial for people.
