The reading passage contends that the Everglades have disappeared because of environmental problems. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument. First of all, the lecture questions the validity of the point in the reading passage that water pollution from close agricultural facility is a problem. This is attributed to the fact that new government’s regulation prevented the devastation of wetland ecosystems and the organisms they support. Because the government regulated harmful chemicals to use, people in this area could use only substances that is not hazard. Thus, the reading passage’s first point is contradicted. Moreover, the lecturer casts doubt on the point made in the reading passage that soil in Everglades could vanish in rapid rate. Because local society already tried to remedy vulnerable soil, the soil could return to its original condition. In addition, reintroduction of water and plants helped soil become fertile. As a result, the reading passage’s second point is invalid. Last but not least, the lecturer disagree with the point made by the reading passage that human development threatens the Everglades. It is true that construction of farms and houses cause the reduction of animals’ habitats, but Florida government purchased abundant region for protecting them. Thus, the species is expected to survive completely in the Everglades. Consequently, the reading passage’s final point is refuted.
