Some people say that it is better to have in-depth knowledge rather than a wide-array of abilities. However, in my opinion,
having a wide-array of abilities is more
significant. First, the current society requires
complex knowledge of various fields to make novel ideas. Second, wide-array of
abilities can make the chance to experience many things.
To begin with, having only
one field's expertise is not suitable for this convergence society. Nowadays,
people need to amalgamate knowledge of several fields such as medicine,
engineering, humanities, or else. People who can unite such sections well and
think of new ideas can get the limelight and be
a brand new leader. For example, my friend Jeff, he first majored
history but transferred to engineering. Later on, he became a programmer and he
made a European historical RPG game. It was a
brand new game and gained popularity quickly. He earned a lot of money and was promoted in his company. He became a leader of the
group and he hired engineers whose majors are about art. I recognized that it
is better to have a wide-array of abilities to
make a novel idea.
On top of that, if someone
has many abilities about various parts, he can get many jobs and experience a
lot. If he knows about many things, he wants would
want to do many things and has an aspiration of that. So he can work in
diverse companies, and prior works that he had might be a good and remarkable
experience. Then he will be a special person different with other people. I'll
take my friend's example. She was interested in fashion, product marketing, and
movies. At first, she worked at a marketing company for 3 years and learned
about social capability. Later, when she worked at a
movie company, her marketing experience was very
helpful for her to get hired, and she was promoted early. And then, now she became a fashion
editor. Plenty of jobs and experiences make made
her so special and to succeed.
To sum up, considering a competitive society
that requires an ability to unite 2 or 3 sections of knowledge and plenty of
experiences to make you a special person, it is most
very important to have the wide knowledge of
various parts, rather than have deep knowledge in one section.
