Opinions might
be divided over whether university has to support their students’ sports
activities with same amount of money as they support their university
libraries. People with various ages and from different walks of life may take
diverse positions on this controversial issue. Personally, I agree that school
should spend money supporting their students’ sport activities as much as they
spend on their libraries for an essential reason: health.
University
spending more money on supporting their sport activities can improve their
student’s health. Some people say that university should spend less money on
their students’ sport activities than they spend on their libraries. Advocates’
claim might be reasonable enough on the surface. However, if we take closer
look at their contentions, the rationale of their assertions lacks logic in
many ways. Moreover, my personal experience can definitely debunk their claims.
When my older brother was 21 years old, he enrolled one of his university
tennis club. His university had spent a lot of money on their students’ sports
activities and the club also had benefits, for example, free court renting and
supporting tennis equipment and so on. Thus, he could play tennis with any
worry about money. Many students in the university enjoy various sports with no
money worries like him. In this way, they could stay healthy while they studied
in their university. The same applies to those who study in other universities.
If their university spend enough money on the sport activities, they can keep
their health easily.
In addition, beyond
my personal experience, there are many articles which can support my argument.
They expressed doubts that are similar to my point of view. A few weeks ago, I
had a chance to read an article from a Cho-seon Daily News that is related to
today’s topic. It described the result of the survey conducted by Seoul
University Sociology researchers with more than 300 university students. Of university
students surveyed, more than 80 percent of them answered that they cannot
manage their health effectively because their university does not give little money
on sport activities. They went on to say that they failed to exercise regularly
because university has few sport activities. On the other hand, students who
were not confronted with such a problem were much more satisfied with their
lives improving their health from the university. This clearly proves that less
spending on the sport activities than on the libraries can increase the risk of
students’ poor health. |
