▶ Your Answer :
In
the lecture the professor contradicts the idea of
altruistic behavior, which means one sacrifices oneself
for the sake of the group, both humans and meerkats, by giving counter-effects of what the passage exemplified.
(First
one is about meerkats. For the foremost,) First of
all, on the contrary to the passage
which says the meerkats (who is) that are
mobilized for patrol go out with empty
stomachs, a recent research found that it
eats (its) lunch before its duty. Not only
that, but the reconnaissance is also likely to have more chances to escape from
predators. As it is the first one in the group to be notified of the intrusion
in the sentinel, it can run immediately after the existence of hawks and other
enemies is clarified. Additionally, as a group of meerkats finding food can
easily draw attention from the predators, it can easily get attacks from them
rather than the altruistic one left alone for patrolling.
Secondly,
the professor rebuts the passage which puts an
emphasis on altruistic activity of humans. As an extreme case, when people
donate his or her organs, contrary to the perspective of the passage, the
lecturer believes that the donor expects applause and appreciation from the
peer group. This means that humans undertake
on altruistic behavior craving for intangible reward. Therefore, the argument
of altruistic behavior of humans by the passage is absolutely false.
