Undoubtedly, encouraging students to learn by diverse methods is
important at schools. Some people think that providing grades to students is
not a good way to promote their learning. However, I do not agree with the
opinion above. This is because getting grades can stimulate students to study
hard and help them improve their weaknesses.
To begin with, providing students
with grades can motivate them to study hard. Generally, people can be
stimulated to study hard when they feel a sense of accomplishment. Students can
feel a sense of accomplishment when they get their visual grades. For instance,
when I was in a middle school, I did not like Korean history because I
thought it was boring and complicated for me. One day, the history teacher
gave us a quiz and I got 62% on the quiz, which that
was higher than I expected and it made me feel satisfied. After getting the
score, I started to enjoy taking a the history
class and study studied hard to feel more
a the sense of achievement, and finally,
I participated in a history debate club with my friends. (위 문장이 너무 깁니다. 중간에 한 번 끊어주세요)
On top of that, students can
improve their weaknesses. When students get a transcript, they can understand
their strengths and weaknesses precisely. Thus, they can realize what study
which area they need to do study to develop their weaknesses. For example, my
high school friend Chang was always confident with math and said that he was
good at it. However, when he got a transcript with the
teacher’s short advice, he noticed that he
was very weak at figure parts and learned how to
improve this weak point. Thus, Chang studied more about figures, following the teacher’s advice and he
was able to get higher grades on the next examination.
To sum up, I believe
that providing students with grades promotes learning.
This is because students can be stimulated to study hard by feeling a sense of
achievement and help them improve their weaknesses by knowing their strengths
and weaknesses.
