In the given set of the materials, the reading passage and the lecture
both deals about wave farms. The reading
passage suggests three advantages of the wave-energy facilities. The lecturer,
however, rebuts the reading’s view based on the following three issues.
First, the speaker maintains that wave farms do not produce constant and predictable energy. The harsh marine environment causes such a technical problem that the generation capacity of wave-energy facilities is fluctuated. This idea is in contrast to the author’s opinion that wave-energy facilities are reliable generators of power.
Next, the lecturer explains that wave farms is are harmful for the
environment. The convertors of wave-energy facilities produce a toxic chemical which contaminates marine organisms.
This is in opposition to the reading passage’ view that wave farms is are environmentally friendly.
Finally, the lecture says that wave-energy facilities give a negative
impact on the natural beauty of surrounding areas. The facilities are not only
painted with bright colors but also located in shores. Therefore, it is they are highly visible and many visitors can easily
detect them. This differs from the author’s idea that wave farms do not provide
a negative effect on the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
