▶ Your Answer :
There is a controversial issue regarding
whether the extended family is not as significant now as before.
I personally
agree with the idea that the extended family is not as important now as before
for two reasons, First, extended family terms are losing meaning itself by
increasing nuclear familys’ appearance and second, social laws changed and
focused on nuclear family.
To begin with, while many people consider that
the ideas of extended family still important and valuable as before, I believe that
nuclear family population is more than the extended family. Because people don’t
want to marry and give birth to a baby. So, the birthrate are decreasing every
year consistently.
According
to a recent poll, the majority of single mother responded that they don’t think
a mind about marriage and childbirth. This is because they only want to live
alone or already living a happy life.
My personal
experience could be an example. When I was young I used to visit to my cousin
house once a month. I often met my grandmother, grandfather and even great
grandmother in there. But now my relatives had gone to abroad and I did not
visit there anymore. Like this, so many people in the world do not gather in
one place as if we had assembled at home. So I think that it is now a thing of
the past.
On the top of that, to strengthen
my view point, overall society laws which are changed focused on nuclear family.
The reason is when the law-making organ legislate the laws, they have to
consider today’s social trend or shift. So, the institution reflects on the
scores of nuclear familys numerical increment.
In
addition, a well-known professor of Harvard University in Home economics department
published an editorial and as a result, he supports my opinion. This report mentioned
that over 60% of the family shape of recent research is consisted of nuclear
family. The professor also said that the extended familys’ distribution ratio perpetually
will be decrease comparing to the past.
To conclude,
I strongly argue that my points with two reasons are sufficiently convincing.
The growing
number of nuclear family has contributed to the loss of the extended family meaning
and most social laws criterion changing and progressive.
In this
regard, I believe that the extended family is not as critical in the present as
before.
