A lot of controversy exists over whether government should protect the old,
historic building without replacing it with modern building. Regardless to say,
this debate is important issue since there does not remain much land for us to
build enough buildings, with overpopulation. I totally agree with this concern
about this issue. In my perspective, old, historic buildings should be
protected and preserved. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will discuss
in the following essay.
First of all, historic building is often evaluated as precious, and
beautiful assets generated from ancestors. I saw many of historic buildings in
Korea. One of the best examples is the Kyungbok palace. It is used to be the
palace of Joseon Dynasty, which perished in nineteen century. I have been there
a lot of times since the method of construction is highly celebrated from many
tourists. To put it concretely, the pattern of columns used in the palace is
Bakjamun Pattern which only exists in this building and the style of roof is
also incredibly elegant. I do not know exact name of style of roof, however, it
is literally wonderful. With this example, I would say that protecting historic
buildings is most valuable way to protect the history.
On top of that, historic building could attract many tourists over the
world. Reusing the example of Kyungbok palace, I am really satisfied with its financial
value. Whenever I come to see this building, countless foreign tourists come
and wander around this palace interestingly. They felt this building and tasted
the surrounding environment by touching and smelling it. It makes me happy all
the time since I am so proud of my country’s cultural heritage. If you put
yourself in my position, you would feel in same way. As I said, I strongly
believe that preserving historic building should be under preservation of government.
To sum up, keeping old, historic buildings not only brings about preserving
the cultural heritage, but it also helps the country to attract tourists, who
spend enough money for the economy. In this regard, I believe that traditional
buildings should be preserved and inherited from generation to generation. |
