Some people might think that admitting one’s mistakes is not required to be a successful leader. However, in my opinion, This is necessary to be a successful leader. This is because good relationship with others is crucial to be a good leader. If a leader does not have any followers, he or she cannot be a successful leader.
To begin with, people are not likely to consider relationship with others when they think of what is a good leadership. They only come up with one’s problem-solving ability, special habits and such like that, but to be a successful leader, it is necessary to have many followers. To do so, keeping good relationship with others is essential even by admitting one’s mistakes. Imagine that a leader never admit one’s mistakes. Would it be possible for many people to want to follow him or her? This is highly doubtful. If someone want to be a successful leader, he or she should be able to admit one’s mistakes. For example, there is a big survey conducted by a business major in Seoul National University with more than 1,000 university students as respondents. The purpose of the survey is to understand what kind of factors is most important for good leaders. A majority of them responded that the most critical factor is leaders’ faith and trusty toward them. An overwhelming 80% claims that the ability to keep faith toward followers despite one or two small mistakes attracts a lot of followers. This proves that a leader’s ability to admit one’s mistakes makes people follow him or her. This means that becoming successful leaders requires to be very generous.
To sum up, taking the fact that good relationship with others is crucial to be a successful leader into account, admitting one’s mistakes cannot help but be regarded as a essential factor to be a big leader. In this regard, I definitely believe that admitting one’s mistakes is required to be a successful leader.
