suggests three advantages of GM crops, the lecturer brings up several ideas to
contend all the advantages.
First, the lecturer points that GM crops
cannot become the way to solve the problem of world hunger. The author states
in the passage that the problem can be solved by GM technology because it
increases crop yields. However, according to the lecture, we already have food
enough enough food to eat. It means that the hunger is not the matter of yield, but
distribution. This fact refutes the author's point effectively.
Second, the lecturer also disputes that GM
technology cannot reduce the price of food. According to the reading passage,
food prices can be lowered because GM crops are more tolerant to harsh environment.
On the other hand, the lecturer gives the point that not only do GM companies
spend billions of dollars for the technology, but also GM crops require the
more amount of water. In this regard, the lecturer disagrees with the idea
about lowering prices of crops.
Finally, the point that GM technology
cannot solve the problem about availability of vaccine by the lecturer. The
author states that the vaccine cannot be used in developing countries well
because it requires careful control during storage and shipping, but it can be
solved by GM technology because edible vaccines can be produced. However, as
the lecturer points, the crops used for vaccine are also spoilt well during the
process. This fact contradicts the point which the author brings.
