There might be some people who believe that grades are an impediment to
students’ optimal performance. However, I personally disagree with the above
idea for two subsequent reasons. First, students can make achievement when they
are encouraged by grades, and grades provide students with evidence of their
academic progress.
To begin with, the grading system is an essential factor in encouraging
people to study harder. Students are not interested in all subjects that they
are learning because each student has personal interests. It is likely for
students to study less hard for the subject that is not interesting to them.
However, when they are graded, they can study hard for the subject to get good
grades. For example, I really disliked my history class in high school. It was
very boring to me. However, I had to study a history subject to get a good
grade on the SAT test. As I spentd a lot of time on studying history, I was able
to get a good grade in my test and enter the university that I had hoped to get
accepted.
On top of that, grades give students concrete proof of their scholastic
progress. Without a grading system, students would not be able to know how well
they are doing in particular subjects, making it impossible to know which areas
of their education require more effort. Because the grades get students to know
specific a range of abilities. According to the research conducted by the
professor of Stanford University in the United States, the professor found that
the importance of grade as a measurement of academic performance. She found
that grades are a way for teachers to communicate specific information about a
student’s performance. As a result, grades motivate students to focus more on
subjects in which they are doing poorly. Without this method of identifying
their progress, students would not likely know their actual level of knowledge.
In conclusion, grades make students willing to study not interesting
subjects and give them tangible clues about their academic development. In this
regard, I firmly believe that it is good for students to provide grades so that
they are motivated to learn.
