▶ Your Answer : There might be some people who believe that university students should not be required to take at least one class that teaches the culture of a country other than their own. However, in my opinion, college students should be required to take one class of culture of other country. First, it is helpful for students to get a job. Second, we can develop good relationships with foreigners. To begin with, knowing other countries' culture is advantageous to get a job. This is because nowadays companies prefer students who have enough knowledge about other culture. In this globalized world, the companies want to expand their profit resources toward the world. Skeptics of my main line of argument may argue that this reason does not sound like a reasonable position at first sight. Nevertheless, to their dismay, there exist an abundance of examples that substantiate my claim. When I was a college student, I led a hectic lifestyle. This was because intense job competition. Developing foreign language was vital. I had to participate in internship program and to get certificates for job. In addition, I had to take a class about western culture because companies usually wanted to hire students who had knowledge about other culture. On the other hand, students who did not take a class about other culture always failed to get a job. On top of that, we can build good relationships with foreigners if we take a foreign culture class. It is evident that if we know more about the culture of the country, we can understand the people of the country, and we can behavior in a polite way. This lead us to build good relationships because it is based on that assumption. The representative case that I narrated above is not the only evidence to support my view. In a study conducted recently, a significant majority of survey participants endorsed my point of view that a class of other culture makes us have good relationships. One college student said in the survey that she could build a good relationship with her roommate who came from the U.S. At first time, she did not understand her roommate's behavior in her room such as holding a party with her friends. However, after she took a class of the culture of America, she got better understanding about her roommates. Since that time, she does not fight with the roommate anymore. In conclusion, taking a other culture class has not only the advantage of job, but also the advantage of relationship. For these reasons, I strongly believe that the university students should be required to take at least one class about other culture. |
