Some people think that the news media is a trustworthy resource by giving
unbiased information. However, in my opinion, even the most trusted news media
sources might be unreliable and often biased. This is because news media can
give the public different information according
to their perspectives to the society and tries try
to be more dramatic than they actually are in order to gain viewer’s
popularity.
To begin with, a lot of media report the same news differently. This is because each news
media has one’s own point of view such as
conservative and liberal, thus they can convey people different information
even if they report the same event. For example,
the government announced a new policy last summer that they would supply more
apartments than ever before to solve the house
shortage problem. The next day, the Chosun newspaper evaluated that the new policy was not well timed, so it would not be helpful to solving the problem. On the
other hand, the Munhwa newspaper reported that this
announcement was very suitable and needed to set up.
On top of that, a lot of media attempts
(a lot of = 복수) to
make stories look more dramatic than it they
actually is are. (stories가 대상이니 복수형태를 사용하시는 게 옳습니다) This is because news companies want more and more
readers so that they can maximize their interests and profit. For instance, a
few years ago, a certain media apologized to their viewers for its report on
kimchi. It had reported that almost all of the companies produced kimchi in a very filthy and unhealthy environment. However, actually
it was discovered that only a small number of
companies made kimchi in unhealthy surroundings,
but the media exaggerated the truth. Thus, many people stopped buying kimchi
and some kimchi companies had to close their business.
To
sum up, the news media give people different information due to their
perspectives and some companies focus on
dramatic news in order to get many profits. (focus on
dramatic news = dramatic한 뉴스에 집중한다 라는 뜻인데, 본문에는 사실과 달리 조금 더 dramatic하게 바꾼다는 내용이 적혀있었습니다.) In this regard, I strongly
believe that news media sometimes might be unreliable and convey wrong information.
