There are some people who believe that it is better for youngsters in
secondary and tertiary schools to learn about specific fields and jobs than to
study general subjects. However, I personally believe that learning broadly is
much better for students for two subsequent reasons. First, learning about a particular filed narrows down one's area. (what area?) Second, nowadays, becoming
important is combining with related areas. (마지막 문장이 조금 혼란의 여지를 줄 수 있어요.)
To begin with, the young generation possesses potentials. To be specific, an education
system that specifies the students' field of study would not truly excavate one's their potential. Since young students do not know
what they are good at and are interested in, it is better for them to
experience and study general subjects. For instance, those subjects are not
only science and math but also music, history, etc (두 문장을 합쳐주시는 게 더 자연스러워요.). For example, when I was in the undergraduate course, I
took diverse subjects so that I could successfully find my interest in finance.
Now I am in the Ph.D. course and concentrating my field. I could never have never found my future career if I
narrowed my area in the earlier stage. In my opinion, specializing in one's area must be done in graduate study
levels, not in an earlier levels.
On top of that, people are cooperating nowadays. (전에는 협동을 안 했나요?) Paradoxically, students should learn broadly to be a specialist. specialize. This is because
many specialists work together to solve complex problems and they have to
understand their coworkers' area of expertise at least in fundamental levels. According
to a research done by the
national bureau of statistics, among professors in Korea, cases of researching and publishing journals with
specialists who majored in other areas has have
increased in the past decade because research topics and fields are becoming so
sophisticated that they do not have enough time to study nearby related areas (조금 이해하기 힘든 문장입니다). This result
clearly shows that cooperating is important.
To sum up,
students can find their potential when they study broadly, and co-working is important in the complex modern society. In this regard, students
should study general subjects.
